SASHA BANKS vs. BAYLEY
(NXT TAKEOVER: BROOKLYN)
It is with great admiration and honour that I name Sasha Banks vs. Bayley at NXT Brooklyn for the Women’s Championship as 2015’s WWE Match of the Year. It is incredible to see two women go out and put it all on the line and have an amazing and emotionally charged match in the biggest wrestling company in the world. Women in wrestling often have a stereotypical role in wrestling and so this match isn’t simply amazing compared to all women’s matches but rather it was the best wrestling match in the WWE because of the efforts put forward by both women. Entering this match, I was (and still am) a huge fan of Sasha Banks but found myself cheering for Bayley to win this match. It was the perfect mixture of a an arrogant wrestling villain versus a beloved underdog. Both women worked extremely hard using an arsenal of maneuvers and displaying tremendous athleticism and great technical wrestling all the while telling a story that would leave grown men with tears in their eyes when it was all said and done. Describing the match would not do it justice, you need to watch this match on the Network to see just how amazing it was. As a long time wrestling I am proud of both women’s accomplishments to date and believe this is still the beginning of what is to come in their burgeoning careers in the WWE.
