This match was announced as the pre-show kickoff for Wrestlemania as it should be. Within the WWE, the secondary championships have been given very limited prominence. Both Barrett and Cesaro are often jobbing to other top stars. Additionally, Miz has yet to connect with the crowd as a babyface. I personally think the Miz can make the transition but to date I’d grade it a fail. Nonetheless, both men are deserving to have a match at Wrestlemania. Personally, I would have thrown Cesaro in here and made this a triple threat for both the Intercontinental and United States Championships in an effort to unify both belts. However, I do foresee this being a lumberjack match so that all other talents can get on the card somehow. Until it was announced as a preshow match, I had predicted the Miz may win to keep his undefeated streak alive, however with this now being a pre-show match, I think Wade Barrett will win this. The Miz is more of an upper mid-card guy and therefore he seems out of place to win the IC title. Additionally I think Barrett beating Miz does more for Barrett than Miz beating Barrett. Barrett has been on a losing streak as of late and in order to push this guy out of neutral and illustrate his future value, it’s important for Wade to pick up key victories, and preshow or not, he is still competing at the Grandest stage of them all.
WINNER: WADE BARRETT
